CHINA-UK: XI JINPING'S VISIT

Chinese President Xi Jinping will arrive in London on October 19, 2015, evening to begin his 4-day state visit to UK on October 20, 2015. The meticulously planned and choreographed visit includes Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, arriving at Buckingham Palace in a state carriage to a 103-gun salute and white-tie state banquet hosted by the Queen and attended by three generations of the royal family. Xi Jinping will address the houses of parliament and at night will sleep in the palace. UK hopes the visit will herald a “golden era” in Chinese-British relations. British Finance Minister George Osborne set the tone with a preparatory visit to China last month, when he courted Chinese investment into Britain and won praise from Chinese state media for having the "etiquette" not to press human rights issues. One deal expected to be inked during Xi's visit is a plan for two state-owned Chinese utilities to invest in a 16 billion pound ($25 billion) nuclear power project being built by French utility EDF at Hinkley Point in southwest England. Xi Jinping, a football fan, will be accompanied by British Prime Minister David Cameroon to visit the Manchester Football Club.

For Xi Jinping the state visit is a huge propaganda coup especially as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) considers western constitutional democracy to be the number one “peril in the ideological sphere”. The visit will be teclecast live on China's national TV.
