CHINA-LEADERSHIP: MILITARY

 China's official media on April 20, 2016, for the first time referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping by his new military title of "Commander-in-Chief of the PLA’s Joint Battle Command". Addressing military officers in Beijing while dressed in battle camouflage, Xi Jinping received briefings via video-conference from the five new Theatre Commanders. He was unaccompanied by any other top leaders, only by Central Military Commission deputy chiefs. Chinese military analysts say that Xi Jinping's new appointment as top commander of the PLA’s supreme joint battle command body, which was set up to meet today’s modern warfare demands, means he will command land, navy and air forces, as well as other special troops like's new appointment  the Rocket Force and Strategic Support Force.” He already holds the three key posts of – General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC).
