CHINA-LEADERSHIP: ANTI-CORRUPTION/ZHOU YONGKANG

 China’s Central Television reported that the Yichang City People’s Intermediate Court of Hubei Province, handed down a nine-year term to Jia Xiaoye, whose husband, Zhou Yongkang, former PBSC Member and until 2012 one of China’s most powerful officials. His son by a previous marriage, Zhou Bin, received an 18-year prison sentence from the same court. The court’s official social media site announced Ms. Jia’s sentence on June 8, but it was reported by China’s state news media only on June 15.


On June 15, 2016, Xinhua reported that the Yichang City Intermediate People's Court of Hubei Province on June 15, 2016, sentenced Zhou Bin, son of Zhou Yongkang, to 18 years in prison for taking bribes and illegal business operations. Zhou Bin was also fined 350.2 million yuan (53 million U.S. dollars) and all of his illegally obtained assets are to be confiscated. It added that Zhou Bin and his father Zhou Yongkang sought benefits for others by taking advantage of Zhou Yongkang's posts, and accepted property to the value of 98 million yuan.
