Wile it did not state the cause of death, other reports claimed that he apparently committed suicide after becoming depressed over growing infighting between government reformists and conservatives nostalgic about less corrupt times under the rule of the late Chairman Mao Zedong. Zhu Tiezhi was discovered to have hanged himself in the office's garage around 1 am the next day, according to Caixin.
