CHINA-INTERNAL: LEADERSHIP AND THE PARTY

 At a rally on June 1, 2016, to mark the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)'s 95th founding anniversary, Chinese President and Party General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasised that  the CCP must adhere to its Marxist roots and strictly prevent its members from becoming corrupt, otherwise it will lose power. Stating that China should maintain the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, he said that we should firmly believe that socialism with Chinese characteristics is the system that will guarantee China's social development, and it has advantages and self-improvement ability. He addressed the need for Marxism and to update the theoretical work of the Party.


Saying the 'key to doing things well in China lies in the CCP, Xi Jinping called for improvement to CCP leadership and stressed that the CCP must keep improving itself to ensure its leadership. He insisted that Party members become more aware of the need to uphold political integrity, follow the CCP as the core of the Chinese leadership, and act consistently with CCP Central Committee policy. He also addressed the issue of official selection and promotion, pledging that "we will promote officials possessing both ability and integrity." In conclusion he cited Mao Zedong's remark in March 1949, and said"The CCP has got excellent marks in the historical test but it has not ended … What we have done by bring our nation together is to continue the test."
