According to a study by the private US-based Rhodium Group, Chinese investment in the United States already accounts for over 100,000 jobs and the number is growing. It estimates nearly 6,700 American investments in China with a combined value of US$ 228 billion. Rhodium's dataset includes more than 1,300 US companies that have built significant operations in China, 430 of them investing more than $50 million and 56 with billion-dollar bets. Official Chinese data place Chinese FDI in the US at US$ 41 billion, or twice official US estimates. Rhodium Group maintains Chinese FDI in the US for the entire period of 1990 to 2015, at more than 1,200 individual transactions with a combined value of US$ 64 billion. It calculates that US companies today employ more than 1.6 million workers in China. Similarly Chinese companies already provide more than 100,000 jobs today. The benefits of these links, according to the Rhodium Group are today spread across more than 90% of US states and Chinese provinces. The Rhodium Group assesses too that American investment in China peaked in 2008 and has been largely flat since, with a declining trend since 2012.
