CHINA-US: G-20 MEETING

Ahead of this year’s annual G-20 meeting to be held in Germany’s Hamburg port, Chinese President wrote an op-ed article that was published on July 4, 2017, by the German newspaper Die Welt.  In the op-ed Xi Jinping said “The strategic character of Chinese-German relations is steadily gaining in importance,” and the two countries “should intensify cooperation on implementing China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ and jointly make contributions to the security, stability and prosperity of neighboring countries.” As the previous and current hosts, Xi Jinping and German Chancellor Angela Merkel would also have worked together on the G-20 agenda.  Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has visited Germany thrice already with the latest just last month.

(Comment: The growing warmth between China and Germany suggests the US could feel isolated at the upcoming G-20 Summit.)
