CHINA-INTERNAL: CAMPAIGN AGAINST CORRUPTION

The Guangzhou City Intermediate People's Court on August 28, 2017, sentenced the former Secretary of the Shenzhen Municipality Politics and Law Committee and member of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee Standing Committee, Jiang Zunyu for taking bribes totalling nearly HK$ 85.22 million. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, deprivation of political rights for life and all his property was confiscated and turned over to the state treasury. Jiang Zunyu served in Shenzhen Municipality from 1996 to 2014 and in the course of his work he took advantage of his position to assist others in undertaking construction projects and the development of real estate projects and directly or indirectly received bribes amounting to nearly 32.66 million yuan (about HK$ 38.52 million) and HK$ 46.7 million.
