CHINA-INTERNAL: LEADERSHIP - ZHAO ZIYANG

People were not permitted to commemorate former ousted CCP CC General Secretary Zhao Ziyang on his thirteenth death anniversary at his former home in Beijing on January 18, 2018. Zhao Ziyang's political secretary before his death, Bao Tong, 86, could not attend, but sent a inscription to Wu Wei, a secretary, praising Zhao Ziyang for his fair life and his impartiality. Du Guang, deputy director of the 90-year-old Central Party School's original theory research institute, said he regretted that Zhao Ziyang's concept of "separation of party and government" put forward at the 13th National Party Congress was not accepted. Wang Yanan, daughter of Zhao Ziyang, said she hopes to rehabilitate her father and restore the truth of history. Zhao Ziyang's ashes are still at home, Wang Yanan said the prospects for parental burial remains uncertain.
