China's Ministry of Environmental Protection notified on February 27, 2018 that more than 1,100 people have been held accountable of which 60 are departmental level cadres and more than 240 are division level cadres. It said in the special operation of Green Shield, more than 2,460 enterprises were shut down and more than 5.9 million square meters were forcedly dismantled. The Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Forestry Bureau, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the SOA jointly conducted the "Green Shield 2017" National Nature Reserve Supervision and Inspection Operation between July and December 2017. They used high-resolution remote sensing images, unmanned aerial vehicles, mobile APP and other technical means. The Ministry of Environmental Protection and 7 other departments jointly formed 10 inspection teams to inspect China's 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities, City) 130 natural reserves of more than 1,300 site visits.
