CHINA-PLA: J-20 STEALTH AIRCRAFT

Yang Wei, Deputy to the Thirteenth National People's Congress (NPC), Vice President of China Aeronautical Academy and Chief Engineer of J-20 Fighter Jets, said in an interview before the closing session of the 13th NPC that the J-20 has made many "breakthroughs" in many aspects such as situational awareness, information confrontation, airborne weapons, and coordinated operations. In the past few years, through the development of the J-20, Yun-20, J-15 and J-16, a digital aircraft research and development system with Chinese characteristics was established and the most advanced aircraft design conditions were established. He said the improved conditions and processes have made the aircraft development cycle shorter and of higher quality. At the same time, a large number of outstanding scientific research personnel have grown up with a feeling of pride for China and this, he said, is a vital force for the future development of China’s aviation industry. Yang Wei said that the J-20 is the fourth-generation fighter developed independently by China. The fifth generation is based on the latest fighter planes from the United States and Russia. “We internally called Zhai-20 'Weilong', and military enthusiasts and netizens have given it a lot of meaningful names such as 'Black Ribbon' and 'Galaxy Warship'. We all like it very much.”
