CHINA--POLITICAL: CORRUPTION

Following reports last week that Guo Yongxiang, a former Vice Governor of Sichuan Province and former aide of Zhou Yongkang was expelled from the party for "serious violations of discipline and the law", investigations aimed at former Politburo Standing Committee member and China's powerful Security Czar, Zhou Yongkang appear to be accelerating. Reports coming out of Beijing on April 13, 2014 claim that two more officials with ties to him have been placed under investigation.

The party's watchdog anti-corruption body, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCID), revealed on its website that Zhao Miao, a standing committee member of the Communist Party Committee in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, is being investigated for alleged "serious violations" of discipline. Yan Cunzhang, head of the Foreign Cooperation Department at the China National Petroleum Company (CNPC), is also under investigation. Yan Cunzhang was taken away by authorities at the end of last week's Qingming Festival.
