A new “Chinese on-line volunteer army” staffed by members of a nationalist right-wing network group, is springing up. Initiated by the followers of PLA Senior Colonel Dai Xu, who has advocated for a self-organized liberation army to beat down foreign enemy forces on-line, the volunteer army is organized like a military division. Each division of the group has its own social media account marked with scarlet national flags, propaganda slogans on its profile pages and even its own anthem. This volunteer army projects itself as the force defending national interests and 'China’s Dream', a concept proposed by China’s president Xi Jinping in 2012.
