JAPAN-CHINA: MILITARY

Japan's Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera attended a well publicised groundbreaking ceremony on April 19, 2014 for a small radar station on Yonaguni Island, located 67 miles east of Taiwan and 93 miles south of the Senkaku Islands. Japan's Defence Ministry has said that about 100 troops will be deployed at the “coastal observation unit,” which is on a 60-acre site. Yonaguni is a 11 square mile island.
