CHINA-INTERNAL: ENVIRONMENT/WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

On December 30, 2016, China's State Council announced that the commercial processing and sale of ivory will stop by March 31, 2017, and all registered traders will then be phased out, bringing a full halt to the market by the end of the year. Ivory can presently reach US$ 1,100 (£850) per kilogram in China.

(Comment: The announcement has been praised by international wildlife conservationists.)
