CHINA-INTERNAL: STABILITY

Following the series of violent attacks in recent months including most recently at the Kunming and Urumqi railway stations, where 32 were killed and over 200 injured, many cities in China have stepped up security and tightened armed patrols on the streets. In Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province for example, police have been equipped with guns and protective devices and are patrolling the city 24 hours a day. Professional emergency-handling vehicles have also been stationed in the city's main areas and military forces and special policemen have been dispatched for joint patrols. Fully-armed patrol teams are deployed at the city's railway station, bus station and airport.

Separately, from May 12 in Beijing 150 armed patrol vehicles were deployed across the city to maintain stability in the capital.

Also, China's Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun inspected Hunan Province from May 6 to 9, where he urged deployment of as many police officers as possible at key public venues during crucial times.
