CHINA-SRI LANKA: POLITICAL/MILITARY

 

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa on May 16, 2014,  met the Vice Chairman of China's Central Military Commission (CMC) General Xu Qiliang in Colombo. 
Xu Qiliang, who is leading the highest ever military delegation from China to Sri Lanka, is accompanied by a high-level PLA delegation comprising PLA Navy Lt General and Deputy Chief of the PLA General Staff Sun Jianguo, Assistant to Director of the PLA's General Political Department (GPD) Cui Changjun and the Political Commissar of the PLA Tibet Military District (TMD) Diao Guoxin. Wu Jianghao, China's Ambassador to Sri Lanka, was present at the meeting where Mahinda Rajapaksa said that friendly Sri Lanka-China cooperation has withstood the test of time. He expressed Sri Lanka's gratitude to China for its long-term strong support and help. Xu Qiliang said that "sincere mutual assistance and friendship from generation to generation" is the reality and vision of the bilateral ties between China and Sri Lanka and the two countries will collaborate with each other, help each other, and promote the bilateral relations to reach a new level.

Dressed in the PLA Air Force (PLAAF) uniform throughout his visit, General Xu Qiliang visited the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Academy, SLAF Base at Katunayake, and the Naval and Maritime Academy at Trincomalee. General Xu Qiliang and his entourage also visited the Temple of the Tooth.
