Signifying a breakthrough in the hitherto deadlocked negotiations, the State-owned China National Petroleum Corp, China’s largest oil company, said on May 21, 2014 that it had signed a 30-year deal to buy up to 38bn cubic metres of gas per year from Russia beginning in 2018.

Details of the pricing of the gas were not revealed.
