Xinhua quoted Qin Gang, spokesman of China's Foreign Ministry, as saying on Feb 28, 2014 that the people of Ukraine have the ability to resolve their problems themselves. He added that "China's stance is consistent", it respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Separately on March 1, Wang Haiyun, Senior Advisor of the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS), in an article in Global Times called the new Ukrainian government separatist and created by a West-sponsored "color revolution."
