Following the withdrawal of Indian and Chinese troops from the face-off on the Doklam Plateau, interesting are two articles published on September 12, 2017, in China's official state-owned Global Times. One is by retired PLAAF Senior Colonel Wang Xiangsui, presently a professor at Beihang University in Beijing and the other by serving Major General Qiao Liang, both of who co-authored the book 'Unrestricted Warfare' in 1999. While Wang Xiangsui argued that 'strategic understanding' is knowing when it is not possible to defeat an adversary and then leaving it well alone, Major General Qiao Liang wrote “War must always be the last resort in disputes”. He said even if a cause is right, “It is also not to do the right thing at any time, “Only doing the right thing at the right time is correct”.
