Extra security is to be provided over the week-end by Beijing authorities to the almost 70,000 students appearing in 100 testing centres in Beijing for the 2-day University admission tests. For the first time in more than 30 years the 'gaokao' examinations will be conducted under heavy guard with gun-toting anti-terror police on patrol and exam papers delivered by armoured cars. The extra security measures are part of the central government’s counter-terrorism operations, launched in the wake of bombing attacks elsewhere on the mainland.
