CHINA-INTERNAL/POLITICAL: CASS

The website of the Institute of Modern Chinese History (?????) of the prestigious Beijing-based Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) reported that during a visit on June 10,  Zhang Yingwei had said that the CASS faces four ideological problems currently, namely:

i) wearing the cloak of scholarship,or making a smokescreen for using academic research as a guise for other purposes;

ii)using the internet to concoct distorted theories which straddle national boundaries;

iii) every time there is a sensitive period, carrying out illegal linking up activities; and

iv) accepting the infiltration of person to person [contacts] with foreign powers.

Zhang Yingwei, who has a background in ideological and political work with an educational background in Marxism Leninism, now heads the Discipline Inspection Group sent to CASS by the CCP Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
The remarks, which were promptly posted on the website, were removed on June 14.
