CHINA-INTERNAL:CENTRAL FOREIGN AFFAIRS WORKING COMMITTEE

Xinhua reported (May 15) that CCP CC General Secretary Xi Jinping who is also Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Working Committee, chaired the first meeting of the Central Foreign Affairs Working Committee on May 15 and delivered an "important" speech. Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of strengthening the centralized and unified leadership of the Party Central Committee in its foreign affairs, accurately grasping the current developments and changes in the international situation, and striving to create a new diplomatic situation with "great Chinese characteristics", in order to realize China's goal. He said the Chinese dream of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will make even greater contributions. He referred to  the “One Belt and One Road" and said "reform and construction of the system has firmly defended the interests of national sovereignty, security and development, strengthened the Party’s centralized and unified leadership in foreign affairs, and has embarked on a new diplomatic road with big powers with Chinese characteristics". Xi Jinping observed that the uncertain and unstable factors in the world today are increasing, and opportunities and challenges facing China's development coexist. He said "we must not only recognize the great momentum of development in China and the world, but also see the risks and challenges that we face on the way forward. We should take precautions and respond appropriately to do a good job. At present and for a period to come, it is necessary to deepen the diplomatic layout, implement the planning of major diplomatic activities, increase risk awareness, and firmly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests". He stressed that the construction of the “One Belt and One Road” "is an important platform for us to promote the building of a community of human destiny". Xi Jinping pointed out that the local foreign affairs work is an important part of the party's and the country's external work, and it is of great significance in promoting foreign exchanges and cooperation and promoting local reform and development. Xi Jinping stressed that in order to do a good job in foreign affairs under the new situation, the Central Foreign Affairs Working Committee should play a coordinating role in decision-making and discussion, promote innovation in diplomatic theory and practice, and provide strong guidance for the continuous improvement of foreign affairs. The meeting reviewed and approved the "Regulations of the Central Foreign Affairs Working Committee" and other documents.
