CHINA-FRANCE: FRENCH WARSHIP QUESTIONED BY PLA NAVY IN SOUTH CHINA SEA

A report in the Wall Street Journal on June 8, claimed that a French warship passing through the Spratly Islands was challenged by a PLA Navy warship According to the news report, the PLAN warship said:‘This is China warship calling. The Nansha islands are under Chinese sovereignty. What are your intentions?” The reply from the French military vessel was reportedly "polite but curt" and said the French ships were operating in international waters. Several Chinese frigates and corvettes closely tailed the French warships' passage around Mischief, Subi and Fiery Cross Reefs.
