CHINA-UK: TIBET

During Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's 2-day visit to UK, China and Britain signed a 30-article joint statement on June 17, 2014, where they agreed 'to work together to push forward bilateral cooperation in growth, reform, innovation and human rights'.

The 23rd article of the Joint Statement states that 'both countries emphasize the significance of the protection of human rights and the rule of law and are willing to strengthen dialogues on human rights on the basis of equality and mutual respect'. Britain states, as a long-term policy, that Tibet is a part of China and that it does not support "Tibet independence".
