CHINA-PLA NAVY (PLAN): NEW TYPE 052 "AEGIS" DESTROYER INDUCTED INTO PLAN

The PLAN inducted its thirteenth Type 052 (Aegis) Destroyer, named 'Nanjing',  into service on August 1, 2018.  The destroyer was described as deployed with an unidentified “full shield” destroyer detachment of the PLA Eastern Theatre Command Navy. More than half of the 30 destroyers with the PLAN have a "shield ship" equipped with phased array radar. Currently, more than 10 type 052D and type 052D 'extended version' destroyers (also known as 052E) are being built at Jiangnan and Dalian shipyard.

(Comment: There are presently about 28 missile destroyers in the three fleets of the Navy. Of these 4 of the oldest type 051 destroyers are in the “semi-retirement state”. There are about 9 non-Aegis ships, including one type 051B ship “Shenzhen”, two type 052 ships “Harbin” and “Qingdao”, two type 052B ships “Guangzhou” and “Wuhan”, four modern class ships “Hangzhou”, “Fuzhou”, “Taizhou” and “Ningbo”. Official Chinese sources describe these 13 destroyers except type 051 as very effective in battle. 15 other Navy destroyers are all equipped with phased array radar shields, including 13 domestic Shield (Aegis) ships, and 2 are type 051C Russian Shield ships. There are only 2 type 051C ships, the 115 Shenyang and 116 Shijiazhuang.)
