CHINA-S & T: NEW NATIONAL S & T LEADING GROUP (NSTLG)

On August 8, 2018 the State Council has decided to change the name of the National Science, Technology and Education Leading Group to the National Science and Technology Leading Group [NSTLG].” Its mandate is to "study and review national strategies, plans and major policies in science and technology”; “deliberate on China’s important sci-tech tasks and programs”; and “coordinate major affairs among ministries and local authorities”. PRC Premier Li Keqiang remains head of the group with Vice Premier Liu He as Deputy Head and Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang as head of the group’s office. The group’s office, which used to be held in the State Council, has been moved to the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) to make the group more focused.
