A terse one-line statement last week on the website of the CCP CC's Central Discipline Inspection Commission (CDIC) confirmed reports that a mid-ranking provincial official named Ling Zhengce was being investigated for “serious crimes and breaches of Communist party discipline”. Ling Zhengce is the elder brother of Ling Jihua, Director of the CCP CC's United Front Work Department, who was removed from his previous powerful position as Head of the CCP CC's General Office after his son died in a crash while driving a Ferrari with two girls of an ethnic minority inside. Their father was a staunch mid-level Communist Party cadre in Shanxi Province.
