CHINA-THAILAND: CSIC BUILDING TYPE S26T SUBMARINE FOR THAI NAVY

The state-owned Global Times on September 5, publicised that the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) announced on its WeChat account on September 4, that it has started building a Type S26T submarine for the Royal Thai Navy. It said the submarine was contracted on May 5, 2017, and designed by CSIC's No.701 Research Institute. It will be built by its affiliated Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group. Song Zhongping, a military expert, told Global Times on September 5, that "China didn't have a presence in the international submarine market. Now the Type S26T submarine signals that China already has the capability to export high-tech submarines to other countries."
