CHINA-LEADERSHIP: NUR BEKRI CAUGHT IN ANTI-CORRUPTION DRIVE

The Central Discipline Inspection Commission (CDIC) said in a brief statement September 21, Nur Bekri, Deputy Chief of the National Economic Planning Agency, has been placed under investigation for “serious violations of discipline and law.”  57-year old Our Bekri is one of China’s highest-ranking officials from the Uighur ethnic group and one of the few Uighurs appointed to a senior national post that isn’t related to ethnic affairs. Nur Bekri spent most of his career in Xinjiang and was the No. 2 official in the region until late 2014, when he became the nation’s top energy regulator.
