Beijing goes against Russia

Foreign Policy'  recently (March 5) reported that on Feb 24, Shen Bo, a Counsellor in China's mission at the UN, issued a statement suggesting a  shift in Beijing's support for Moscow. The statement said: "We respect the choice made by the Ukrainian people on the basis of national conditions."

Beijing's discomfort is probably because of its significant commercial interests in Ukraine and Beijing's fears that the use of military force against a sovereign nation sets a precedent that could one day be used against China. China had parted ways with Russia after it intervened in neighboring Georgia in 2008.
