CHINA-INTERNAL: ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN IN PLA

Hong Kong's 'South China Morning Post' reported on June 26, 2014, that two Major Generals in the PLA with connections to Sichuan province have been detained as part of a corruption investigation.

60-year old Ye Wanyong retired as a Major General after having formerly served as Political Commissar in the Chengdu Military Region from 2006. He has been posted earlier in Nyingtri, Lokha and Lhasa. He was 'removed' this week from his post as Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) without any reason being assigned.

Major General Wei Jin, 55 years of age and a Deputy Political Commisar in the Tibet Military District is the other officer to be detained . He was promoted and appointed Deputy Political Commissar of Tibet Military District in November 2011.
The detention of the senior officers is thought to be part of a wider inquiry into alleged graft in the military. According to sources, both men were taken into custody last month.
