CHINA-PLA: ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN IN PLA

A source close to the military revealed that more than 300 military personnel were implicated in the case involving former PLA General Fang Fenghui who, the CDIC said has been stripped of Party membership for corruption. In another statement, the CDIC also said "Zhang Yang, a former head of the PLA Political Work Department, had been stripped of his general’s rank and party membership.” Meanwhile another source said more than 40 people were implicated in the investigation against Zhang Yang.

(Comment: Fang Fenghui was placed under investigation in August 2017. He had previously been head of the PLA General Staff and was seen as a contender for the Politburo. Zhang Yang, 66, hanged himself at his home in Beijing in November 2017 when he was being investigated.)
