CHINA-INTERNAL: POLITBURO MEETING ON AI

The Politburo meeting on October 31, held a 'study session' on Artificial Intelligence. Observing that the external environment is experiencing "profound changes”, or that the United States is restricting China from buying technology or investing in high-tech companies abroad, Xi Jinping said AI is core to China’s future. He added “Artificial intelligence…will have profound and far-reaching effects on the international political economic structure” and “Accelerating development of next-generation artificial intelligence is an important strategic starting point for our winning the initiative in international technological competition.” He told all Politburo members and leading cadres at all levels that they "must strengthen policy support.”
