CHINA-LEADERSHIP: LI PENG'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Former retired Premier 85-year old Li Peng, who played a key role in the crackdown of the Tiananmen Square protest 25 years ago, published his official 490,000-word memoir yesterday. Reporting its release, Xinhua praised the autobiography, which has 16 chapters and 130 pictures and covers events up to 1983, as a “document with great historical value” and written “with sincere emotion”.

The memoir, which is not yet on sale, covers events up to 1983. It omits the highly-sensitive episodes of his later political career.
