CHINA-THAILAND: CHINA APPOINTS YINGLUCK SHINAWATRA CHAIRPERSON OF CHINA'S SHANTOU INTERNATIONAL CONT

The CCP's official newspaper People's Daily reported that former Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was named the Chairwoman of the Shantou International Container Terminal in Guangdong province. The brief article said she was also appointed the firm’s legal representative.

(Comment: Yingluck Shinawatra, whose government was overthrown in a 2014 coup, fled Thailand in 2016 shortly before a guilty verdict was delivered following a lengthy corruption trial. Yingluck and her brother, former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, were spotted in Shantou some days earlier. Both former leaders are descended from Chinese immigrants with roots in southern China. After she escaped from Thailand, Yingluck has lived in exile in multiple countries where she keeps residences, like her brother Thaksin.)
