CHINA-LEADERSHIP: XI JINPING ADDRESSES CDIC MEETING

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Committee and Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, while addressing the third plenary session (January 11-12, 2019) of the 19th Central Discipline Inspection Commission Inspection (CDIC) called for consolidating and developing a "sweeping victory" in the fight against corruption. He said 'efforts should be made to make sure officials don't dare to, are unable to and have no desire to commit corruption'.  The meeting was presided over by Zhao Leji, PBSC member and head of the CDIC. All members of he PBSC were present. 

(Comment: Separately, the CDIC announced that in China 621,000 people were punished for corruption last year, including 51 officials at or above the provincial and ministerial level. It disclosed also that more than 1,000 Chinese fugitives who fled abroad were returned to the country last year and more than $519 million in ill-gotten gains was recovered.)
