CHINA-LEADERSHIP: CAMPAIGN AGAINST CORRUPTION FELLS FORMER PARTY SECRETARY OF SHAANXI PROVINCE

In a one-sentence statement on January 14, the Central Discipline Inspection Commission (CDIC) announced the dismissal and arrest of Zhao Zhengyong, former Party Secretary of Shaanxi province, saying he is the biggest “tiger” to be caught this year. No details were provided of the investigation, but observers said it was clear Zhao Zhengyong's arrest was related to the string of corruption scandals which has so far claimed eight senior Shaanxi officials since the launch of the anti-corruption campaign in 2012.
