CHINA-CANADA: CASE OF HUAWEI FOUNDER'S DAUGHTER MENG WANZHOU

Reacting to Canada's confirmation on January 22, that the US plans to proceed with a formal request to extradite Huawei chief financial officer Sabrina Meng Wanzhou, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China will take action in response to measures taken by the US. She said “Everyone has to be held responsible for their own actions. Both the US and Canada should be aware of the seriousness of the case and take steps to rectify the mistake.” Hua Chunying said the case was an abuse of extradition convention, and called on the US to withdraw the request.
