CHINA-INTERNAL: GOVT WORK REPORTS TO NPC/CPPCC SESSIONS

Xinhua (February 22) reported that the CCP CC Politburo met on February 22, to discuss a draft report on the work of the government and deliberate several other documents. Xi Jinping presided over the meeting. The draft government work report to be delivered by the State Council to the second annual session of the 13th National People's Congress on March 5 and a report on the major work of the central leading group on disciplinary inspection in 2018, a report on the central disciplinary inspection of poverty relief efforts and a regulation on assessing Party and government officials were also reviewed and discussed. Xinhua said "Facing complicated international situations and arduous tasks of reform, development and maintaining stability, the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at the core led the whole Party and all Chinese people in fulfilling major targets and tasks for economic and social development last year, making important progress on the way toward securing a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects." Asserting that China will continue to further deepen market-oriented reform, expand high-level opening-up and speed up efforts in building a modern economy, it also said "Efforts should be made to expose political deviation in the implementation of the Party's lines, guidelines and policies and the CPC Central Committee's decisions and to curb the practice of formalities for formalities' sake and bureaucratism." CCTV also on February 22, reported that in addition to the Work Report on the Government, the Politburo reviewed the "Report on the Key Work of the Leading Group for the Central Inspection Work in 2018", "Comprehensive Report on the Special Inspection of the Central Government for Poverty Alleviation", "Regulations on the Assessment of Party and Government Leading Cadres" and that Xi Jinping presided over the meeting.
