Murong Xuecun, a New York Times columnist and one of China's best novelists and prominent bloggers, was taken away by Beijing police at 2 pm on Tuesday, July 8, and released in the small hours of Wednesday morning after spending a few hours with the police. 40-year old Murong Xuecun, whose real name is Hao Qun, has been outspoken in his demands for free speech and a fierce critic of the Chinese government's censorship.
