CHINA-JAPAN: REGIONAL AID PROGRAMMES
International Monetary Fund data shows that collectively, Japan owned $1.667 trillion in foreign assets in the third quarter of 2018, while China owned $1.542 trillion in the second quarter, the most recent available data for each country. Philippines' Chief Economist was also quoted (interaksyon - February 23, 2019) saying China is offering development loans at 2-3%, while Japan is offering loans at 0.25-0.75%.
(Comment: Other sources in the Philippines are reported to claim that there are additional hidden interest rates on China's BRI loans which can increase the rates to about 7-12%.)
