CHINA-US: TRADE NEGOTIATIONS

As Chinese Vice Premier and Xi Jinping's trade envoy Liu He arrived in Washington on May 10 to continue negotiations, US President Trump raised tariffs on Chinese goods from 10 to 25 percent claiming that will garner around US$ 300 billion for the US. The first round of talks with Robert  Lighthizer ended with Liu He walking out in under 90 minutes. Liu He issued a press statement around 3.00pm on May 11 afternoon where he said:USA must remove tariffs; US most not make unreasonable demands on Chinese import boost; and there must be balanced language in text that respects sovereignty. The trade confrontation seems set to be protracted with the US side clearly indicating a deep distrust of the Chinese and insisting that agreements reached must be written. The US side has said that some points on which agreement had been reached were subsequently deleted from the draft text by the Chinese.
