CHINA-LEADERSHIP:XI JINPING'S INSTRUCTION TO MILITARY EDUCATION SYSTEMS

Inspecting the Infantry Academy of the PLA Ground Force in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province on May 21, Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered military schools to 'move forward in the correct political direction' and asserted that their training must be focussed on what the military needs to win wars and that they must provide capable human resources to support the effort of building a strong military. He asked the academy to better understand the characteristics of modern warfare, its role in the PLA Ground Forces transformation process, and make sure that its graduates are capable of fighting and winning wars. Before issuing the instructions, Xi Jinping met officials and professors at the academy as well as senior commanders of military units stationed in Jiangxi. He watched a 'field training session by cadets at the academy who practiced tactical maneuvers and physical endurance skills under tough conditions'.

(Comment: (i)This was Xi Jinping's fourth inspection tour to a military school since he became Commander-in-Chief in 2012. He has thus far inspected the PLA National Defence University in Beijing, the National University of Defence Technology in Changsha(Hunan) and the Special Police College of the Armed Police Force in Beijing. (ii)The PLA has 43 military universities, colleges and academies.)
