The state-owned CCTV reported (July 16) that PBSC Member and Chairman of the CPPCC Wang Zhen had attended a three-day conference in the Hetian district of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous where PB Member and Xinjiang Party Secretary Chen Quanguo was among those present. CCTV for the first time described Wang Zhen as "head of the Central Committee's Xinjiang Work Coordination Small Group".

Separately, to handle the troubles in Hongkong PBSC Member Han Zheng went to Shenzhen, Guangdong Province to take command of developments while communicating with Hong Kong's top leaders. He is reported to have visited Hongkong "at least twice" since June.
