PLA Navy Chief,  Admiral Wu Shengli welcomed Admiral Jonathan Greenert, US Chief of Naval Operations, on July 15, 2014, with a red-carpet ceremony and an honour guard at his headquarters in Beijing. An accompanying US navy official said the visit was meant to "look at ways to increase the cooperation between our navies". Pointing out that it was the "fourth interaction" between the two officers over about the past year, he said, "It obviously improves our understanding of each other also." Greenert's visit is till July 18 and will include a visit to China's sole aircraft carrier, the Liaoning.
