CHINA-U.S: UN DROPS REFERENCE TO BRI IN RESOLUTION ON AFGHANISTAN
Associated Press (September 17) reported that the U.N. Security Council unanimously adopted a compromise resolution extending the U.N. political mission in Afghanistan, dropping a Chinese demand to include a reference to China’s $1 trillion “belt and road” initiative. The resolution does, however, include a reference to the need for regional connectivity as a compromise. China and Russia had clashed with the U.S. and other Security Council members on September 16, over China’s insistence on including its flagship BRI program in the resolution, till finally a compromise was reached on September 17.
