CHINA-LEADERSHIP: YE JIANYING'S SON AND XI JINPING SUPPORTER, YE XUANPING DIED ON SEPTEMBER 17

Ye Xuanping, elder son of Ye Jianying, one of the ten founding Marshals of communist China, died on September 17 at the age of 95. Ye Jianying and his family were very close to that of Xi Zhongxun. Immediately after the Cultural Revolution ended, Ye Jianying helped rehabilitate Xi Zhongxun. Ye Jianying also arranged for Xi Jinping to take a position in the CCP’s Military Committee when Xi Jinping graduated from Tsinghua University with a degree in Organic Chemistry in 1979. The same year Xi Zhongxun appointed Ye Xuanping as Deputy Governor of Guangdong province.

(Comment: Reports indicate that Ye Jianying's second son, Ye Xuanning, gave Xi Jinping strong support by playing a key role in taking down Bo Xilai, which was a crucial step for Xi Jinping in removing all obstacles in his path to becoming China’s leader. In addition, the Ye family made several public announcements backing Xi Jinping when the struggles between Xi Jinping and Jiang Zemin’s faction became intense. The friendship between the Ye family and Chinese leader Xi’s family has spanned two generations, and the families have mutually supported each other in their political careers. Ye Xuanping's death could mean that Xi Jinping has lost an important supporter among the 'Red princelings'.)
