Statements issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Nepal from September 8-10, and meetings with the Prime Minister, Ministers and senior leaders of both the ruling and opposition parties, clarified that the U.S. strategy was discussed. Part of a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry after Wang’ Yis meeting with Oli says: “The Nepali side is opposed to any attempt to contain or thwart China’s development.” Another statement issued by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs after Wang Yi’s meeting with co-chair of the Nepal Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal forthrightly states that the two sides discussed the U.S. strategy. The statement says, “Nepal firmly adheres to the policy of non-alignment, disagrees with the so-called Indo-Pacific strategy, and opposes any attempt to contain or thwart China’s development. Nepal has always believed that China’s development is an opportunity for Nepal, and is willing to learn China’s successful experience.”
