CHINA-SOLOMON ISLANDS: CHINA PURCHASES ISLAND OF TULAGI IN SOLOMON ISLANDS
China's Sam Enterprise Group, a State-owned Enterprise, set up in 1985 has singed a renewable 75-year lease agreement with the provincial government of Tulagi whose terms have not been publicly released. The 1000 residents of the island are reportedly annoyed that their island could become a Chinese military port. The Solomons curt ties with Taiwan just days before this agreement was concluded.
